TISSUE
REQUEST GUIDELINES
Neuroscience investigators are invited to apply for brain
tissue obtained from autistic subjects and/or their relatives to advance
biomedical research in autism.
Investigator Request for Brain Tissue
For tissue request guidelines and application information
please visit www.atpportal.org.
The Autism Tissue Program (ATP) was established:
1)
to promote national awareness of the importance of brain tissue donation
for the purpose of autism biomedical research
2)
to maintain a central database of registrants and available tissue
3)
to review requests for tissue and distribute tissue through its Tissue
Advisory Board (TAB)
4)
to promote information exchange among researchers through the TAB
5)
to inform the autism community of research progress and findings.
The TAB has the responsibility, in addition to defining
optimal brain bank collection protocols, including retrieval, sectioning
and storage, to review applications for tissue and advise on tissue distribution
based on both the scientific merit of the proposed research and the potential
of the research to contribute to the further understanding of autism.
Requests for tissue should reflect those goals.
Researchers receiving tissue, who also have autism
tissue or control tissue, are encouraged to make that material available
to other investigators using ATP tissue whenever possible.
